Tech Tip #137: 3 Tips to Make Your IT Security Work for You!

Hackers, cybercriminals, natural disasters - all and the above can hurt your computer and your business if you're not properly prepared. Just as our personal hygiene is an important factor in our daily lives, the preventive measures we take to keep our technology running smoothly and predictably should be as easy and secondary as brushing our teeth.

However, maintaining computers can be a lot of work. Updating the operating system, the security software, the applications, checking for conditions that might slow productivity down like low hard drive space and hardware errors, and verifying that the system starts correctly can take hours out of a busy person’s day.

CTTS knows that time is money, so we offer a Complete Managed IT Services package. Well-maintained managed devices last years longer than their illtreated equivalents, supporting your business and keeping more of your hard-earned money in your wallet along the way. One of the least recognized but high-value features is that it does all these time-consuming tasks without anyone having to click a button.

To keep things simple, we've outlined 3 things you can do to ensure the security of your system and your business-critical data:

  1. Enroll in our Managed Services plan.
  2. Integrate Disaster Recovery Business Continuity into your company policies.
  3. Keep your systems on and connected during the hours the policies run updates.

Systems enrolled in our Managed IT Services plan have a weekly patch policy in place. Desktops have the policy run every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 2 am in the time zone the machine is in. It will automatically reboot if required. Laptops run at 12 noon Tuesday and Thursday in the time zone the machine is in and will prompt for a reboot. Laptops are less likely to be online during the night, so we set this up to ensure devices stay up to date with the latest security patches and applications.

If you're already enrolled in our Complete Managed IT Services, you're all set! If you would like to learn more about the other features in our Complete Managed IT Services plan, please feel free to give us a call at (512) 388-5559.
