Tech Tip #115: Take Control of Your Domain
In order to do anything with your domain, you'll need to be a specified user, and if you are unsure of your status, let this be a friendly reminder to check and see. To learn more, watch the video below where I talk about the importance of controlling your domain:
Every website starts with the domain name, without it you don't have a site. At the top of your browser in the address bar, you can easily find the domain, it's what comes after the https://.
The Domain Name System (or DNS) converts human readable domain names (like: www.google.com) into Internet Protocol (IP) addresses (like: 173.194.39.78).
While the domain is just the address, hosting is the paid service that holds the files of your website. A domain name and hosting are often bought together, but don’t need to be and can be purchased separately. They will often have separate login information, so it’s important to know the difference and who on your team has access to what.
