The Tech Talent Triangle!

The Tech Talent Triangle!

NEW NAME, WHO THIS? ??

So, last year my newsletter was called Teacher to Trainee.. I was a Teacher and I was becoming a Trainee in recruitment... the name made sense!

Now, I am 14 months into my recruitment journey and no longer feel like a trainee, don't get me wrong I still learn new things every day (even if some of them are things I have been shown and immediately forgotten).

I also know that I have a lot more to learn and hopefully that will always be the case!

To quote my main man, and my potential Great Great Uncle, Albert "When you stop learning you start dying".

I digress, the point was that I decided to change the name of this newsletter to something more suitable. Hence The Tech Talent Triangle, because most of this newsletter is based around IT and Tech Talent Recruitment, and then Triangles because I talk about BJJ a lot, it's also the only musical instrument I can play.. sort of.

Could be Albert Einstein, could be me after my first year of recruitment (who knows).

IS MY INTERVIEW PROCESS TOO LONG? ??

If you have to ask yourself this question, then the chances are it is...

Lets be honest life moves bloody quickly, but do you know what moves even faster. A bloody good Developer!

If your process consists of 4 different interviews and a presentation and a meet the office cat day then the chances are you are never going to have candidates who are still available by the last stage... and if by some miracle you do have anyone left, I would worry about why they haven't been offered anything else in the past 6 weeks.

Don't get me wrong, making sure that someone is a good fit is vital! But if you are working with a (good) recruiter, you should at least be getting candidates who are right for the job, surely after another two interviews (one for culture and personality and one for some more technical things) you should have a pretty good idea of if this candidate is right for you or not?

If you are still unsure after three or more interviews, then this candidate probably isn't right for you. ?

ANOTHER RECESSION, WHAT DOES IT MEAN?! ??

Probably not a lot to be fair, some companies might cut back on their staffing quotas to save money where they can, other companies will continue to grow and increase their staffing. The word recession seems to strike a lot of fear into anyone who hears it, like Voldemort in Harry Potter!

But in actuality, a lot of businesses are still growing and thriving especially in the IT sector!

BJJ BUDDIES

I recently got the chance to roll with someone who I only previously knew from LinkedIn, and it was a fantastic experience!

Sure, we got to talk about work and things afterwards but speaking to someone who you share something with outside of your office jobs is really nice, this person opened up and talked to me about their career goals etc. and I spoke about where I may be able to help them in the future.

It just goes to show you can work on your network wherever you go!

...Even while being choked out by your new LinkedIn friend! (as long as it's consensual).

Anyway that about wraps it up for this edition, thank you as always for the kind comments you have sent about this newsletter, it means a lot!

And if you need any help or advice on your IT Recruitment, then get in touch I am always happy to help! ??
