TECH-SONIC'S "CLC" Technology Takes Ultrasonic Metal Welding for Pouch Battery to the Next Level
The need for precise welding of pouch battery cells is increasingly important as we see this technology being used in the production of all-electric vehicles (EVs).
Pouch Battery Overview:
To accurately weld the foil stacks used in pouch cells for EV batteries, advanced ultrasonic welding technology featuring Closed Loop Control of Servo Driven weld heads is the solution.
In ultrasonic welding, the sonotrode is the component of the welder that comes in direct contact with the metal materials, supplying the vibrational energy to create the weld. The sonotrode is subjected to mechanical stress and wear during the welding and must be occasionally replaced to keep producing quality welds.
With conventional pneumatic methods, the sonotrode is mechanically fixed to the booster of the ultrasonic stack with a threaded stud, requiring the removal of the ultrasonic assembly to replace the sonotrode, then remounting and realigning this assembly. With the Closed Loop Control System of welding, a front-loading sonotrode is used, which simplifies tooling - simply remove the socket head bolt from the front to detach and replace the horn. As a result, downtime is reduced by more than 70%.
