The tech Saudi Arabia is using to transform passenger flow across 27 airports

In a bid to elevate the airport experience, Saudi Arabia is rolling out an advanced LiDAR and passenger flow management solution across its 27 airports “in the world’s largest implementation of its kind.” This will empower airports with detailed insights into passenger movement and wait times to support with capacity planning.

Today, Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) and airport operator MATARAT announced the tech roll out which will be distributed in a phased approach over the coming 18 months. It is already in place at Jeddah and Riyadh Airports.

These advancements come from Veovo, DTP, and leading Saudi ICT provider,?SAMI Advanced Electronics. SAMI Advanced Electronics partnered with DTP to deliver the solution, using Veovo’s Queue and Flow Management system and DTP’s tNexus smart mobile platform.

The data generated through LiDAR sensors, stereo cameras, and WiFi/BLE infrastructure will be interpreted and disseminated to relevant stakeholders through DTP’s technology in the form of real-time metrics, alerts, and flight information.

This technology will empower GACA and airport operator, MATARAT, with key insights enabling the airports to adopt a proactive approach to congestion.
