Tech Pack Tuesdays ? Change has to come from designers
“I don’t think it’s OK any more for me as a designer to leave sustainability as something for factories and suppliers to worry about. Fashion starts with design, so the change has to come from designers.”
Instead of starting with a design sketch and seeing if sustainable fabrics are available, Stuart Vevers (designer at Coach) explains… he starts with what’s available.
Old jeans, deadstock fabrics, regenerative cotton – and then figures out the most beautiful way of using them.
“Not everything will work but I try to explore ideas without fear. Fear was holding me back – I was worrying: am I going to be judged, if it doesn’t work? – so I realised I just had to try anyway.”
If you’re ready to start investing more in your design process, rethinking the status quo, and having a holistic + strategic beginning for your collection, you need our Ideation Intensive session.
We’ll be using my proprietary design process: Fabric / Futures / Function / Fit / Finery – to polish up your next product idea and turn it into an heirloom worthy design.
There’s a reason why I call it a design AND materials session.
Not only does sustainability dictate that we think materials first… the “master of couture” does it that way too.
It’s up to us designers to re-invent the fashion industry, break ground with sustainable innovations and ‘invent’ more circular products and inclusive businesses.
If you want to chat about your next development project, or you just have questions, book a quick chat with me here.
See you next week,
Belinda
