Tech News: Micron Mass Produces 232-Layer QLC NAND Chips and Launches New SSDs

美光科技 recently announced the mass production and shipment of its advanced 232-layer QLC NAND flash memory chips?in select countries and regions. The company's Crucial sub-brand has also begun mass producing SSDs equipped with these chips for enterprise clients, and is offering samples to OEM manufacturers.

Micron's 232-layer QLC NAND chips boast industry-leading storage density and performance. Compared to major competitors, the chip achieves a 28% increase in bit density and an I/O speed of 2400 MT/s, which is a 50% improvement over Micron's previous generation of 176-layer QLC NAND. Additionally, read performance is improved by 24%.

The company also launched the world's first consumer-grade SSDs featuring the 232-layer QLC NAND chips: the Micron 2500 NVMe series. Available in capacities of 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB, these SSDs set a new benchmark for storage standards in everyday PC applications and computing tasks.

According to Micron, the user experience of the 2500 NVMe series surpasses that of similar products based on TLC and QLC chips. In PCMark 10 benchmark tests, the series scored on average 45% higher than competitors.

In terms of performance, the Micron 2500 NVMe series SSDs offer sequential read speeds of up to 7.1 GB/s, nearly reaching the theoretical limit of the PCIe Gen4 interface.

Regarding durability, the 232-layer QLC NAND demonstrates robust longevity. Even the smallest capacity Micron 2500 512GB SSD can support the download of 13 4K movies per day for three consecutive years, with a lifespan rating of 200 TBW.

Micron's new advancements in QLC NAND technology and SSDs are poised to set new standards in storage and performance for both enterprise and consumer markets.
