On August 20, leading chip manufacturers 联发科技 and 英伟达 unveiled an exciting partnership aimed at enhancing the gaming experience. The collaboration will integrate NVIDIA’s full suite of G-Sync technology?into MediaTek’s display control chips, enabling users to enjoy a clearer and smoother gaming experience without the need for a G-Sync Ultimate module.
G-Sync, NVIDIA's proprietary display synchronization technology introduced in 2013, revolutionized the way graphics cards and monitors interact. Traditionally, monitors refresh at a fixed rate—typically 60Hz, with gaming monitors reaching up to 120Hz or 144Hz—while the frame rate output from graphics cards can vary based on performance. This disparity often leads to visual artifacts like screen tearing, where different frames are displayed simultaneously.
NVIDIA's solution involves synchronizing the monitor's refresh rate with the completion of a new frame by the GPU, enabling variable refresh rates and effectively eliminating screen tearing. As the gaming and chip industries evolve, new technologies such as low-latency dynamic blur and dynamic frame rate overclocking continue to enhance G-Sync’s value.
While NVIDIA’s G-Sync technology offers similar benefits to AMD’s FreeSync, it traditionally required an additional hardware module, increasing production costs. In contrast, FreeSync does not necessitate extra hardware and is available at no additional cost to users.
The partnership between NVIDIA and MediaTek addresses this cost challenge by incorporating G-Sync technology directly into MediaTek’s display control chips. This integration simplifies production and reduces costs, allowing gamers to access fully-featured G-Sync monitors at more affordable prices.
