LG Display has announced a groundbreaking development: the world’s first stretchable display?with an impressive 50% expansion rate, designed to revolutionize flexible display technology. This new prototype features a 12-inch screen capable of stretching up to 18 inches, delivering 100 pixels per inch (PPI) resolution in full RGB color. This innovation marks a significant leap from the previous 20% expandability achieved in 2022.

This advanced stretchable display incorporates a range of cutting-edge technologies. LG Display has enhanced a special silicone substrate, originally used in contact lenses, to create a highly durable and flexible foundation for the display. The prototype also utilizes micro-LED light sources with a diameter of 40 micrometers, along with a newly designed wiring structure that enables greater flexibility, stretchability, and resilience. Tested for durability, the screen can withstand over 10,000 stretch cycles while maintaining image clarity, even in extreme conditions.
