?? 3 times smarter than its latest version: What we know from Chat GPT's latest update, GPT4

OpenAI unveiled the new Chat GPT-4 on March 17, 2023, and a great deal of hullabaloo has happened since then.?

Chat GPT4 is the most significant development in the 65-year history of AI. The chatbot has over 65 million users a month and in comparison, it took Instagram over a year to amass 10 million subscribers.

Mainly, GPT-4 includes the ability to drastically increase the number of words that can be used in an input: up to 25,000, 8 times as many as the original ChatGPT model.

Equally, OpenAI has stated that the latest version of their technology makes fewer mistakes that they are calling 'hallucinations'. Previously, ChatGPT could become confused, offering up a nonsensical answer to your question, or even inputting stereotypes or false information.

Additionally, GPT-4 is better at playing with language and expressing creativity. In OpenAI's demonstration of the new technology, ChatGPT was asked to summarize a blog post only using words that start with the letter 'g'. It also has a better understanding of how to write poetry or creative writing, but it is still by no means perfect.

On top of this, OpenAI also displayed the potential of using images to initialize prompts. For example, the team showed a picture of a fridge full of ingredients with the prompt "What can I make with these products?". ChatGPT then returned a step-by-step recipe.

?? Privacy and legal concerns

While the market is fascinated with the next version release of Chat GPT-4 which is a deep learning algorithm capable of generating human-level conversational responses, many technology leaders are concerned about its increasing risks.

The potential of GPT-4 is significant and for this technology to be used responsibly, we need to advance AI legislation faster with more uniformity. Governments, corporations, academic researchers and citizens must create guidelines and regulations that continue to advance and protect users’ privacy and security.

??Meta's new AI tool

Editing photos, analyzing surveillance footage and understanding the parts of a cell. These tasks have one thing in common: you need to be able to identify and separate different objects within an image.?

Traditionally, researchers have had to start from scratch each time they want to analyze a new part of an image. Meta aims to change this laborious process by being the one-stop shop for researchers and web developers working on such problems.?

On Wednesday, the company released an AI model, called “Segment Anything Model” or “SAM” through which users can create “cutouts” or segments of any item in an image by clicking on a point or drawing a box around the object.?

The announcement comes simultaneously as Meta reportedly plans to use generative AI for advertisements across Instagram and Facebook. Not wanting to miss out on the buzz around AI, in late February, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that he is creating a new product team solely focused on building generative AI tools.

?? Landmark deal merges three Canadian crypto platforms

CoinSmart, WonderFi, and Coinsquare, three Canadian cryptocurrency companies, have announced a merger to create Canada's largest crypto trading platform.

The company's press release states that the new platform will have more than $600 million in assets. It also points out that the three companies have done more than $17 billion in transactions since 2017.

The merger will combine four of Canada's 11 largest crypto platforms into one company: CoinSmart, Coinsquare and WonderFi, which own the Bitbuy and Coinberry platforms.

In this merger, the combined company will provide one of the largest crypto asset trading platforms regulated in the world, as well as various products and services to Canadians, including trading of retail and institutional crypto assets, staking products, processing of B2B crypto payments (business-to-business), and betting on sports and games.

Coinsquare CEO Martin Pissel said that the collaboration between the three cryptocurrencies will create a secure, regulated, reliable and future-proof platform that can compete with other crypto exchanges operating in Canada.

??Concerns for the future: A pause in A.I developments?

An open letter has been drafted calling for all AI labs to pause for at least six months on the development of systems more powerful than GPT-4.?

This would include OpenAI's work on GPT-5 - the next version of technology ChatGPT will eventually run on.

This open letter has been signed by prominent AI researchers, as well as figures within the tech industry including Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and Yuval Noah Harari.

This letter states that the pause should be public and verifiable, arguing that companies like OpenAI, Microsoft and Google are entering a profit-driven race to develop and release new AI models at a dangerous pace.

This comes at the same time as a report from Goldman Sachs that suggested 300 million full-time jobs could be impacted by AI systems like ChatGPT, escalating existing concerns around these platforms.
