Welcome to Talent Talk; your fortnightly dose of startup hiring insights. In this edition: Tech hiring roundup
This week, we’ve collected some of the newest stories in the tech recruitment space for you to pick through. Let’s dive in!
Tech skills still lacking ??
A poll by the UK Department of Education found that 46% of small businesses ranked a “lack of staff with the right skills and difficulties hiring” as their top two concerns this year. This continues a trend of there being a shortage of tech talent in the job market, making hiring for specialist roles increasingly difficult.
Cristina Criddle has done an excellent exploration for the FT into the difficulties tech companies are having finding the right staff and then training them up to the required standard. Take a look at the article here.
And it’s not just the UK ??
In a previous newsletter, we discussed the huge layoffs we’ve been seeing from tech companies such as Alphabet, Meta, and Twitter. In fact, recent reports have shown that tech companies have laid off 94,000 staff members since January.
Despite so many job seekers flooding the market, firms are still having a hard time finding the right staff for open roles. Check out CNBC’s breakdown of the problem below.
It’s not all doom and gloom ??
Time for something a bit more positive! Even though companies are struggling to find staff with the right skills, this doesn’t mean they aren’t looking. With the recent boom in AI technologies, many firms are hoping to jump in on the ground floor of this exciting new frontier — and they need the staff to drive that forward.
