Tech for Good with Dr. Lisa Su, Chair and CEO of AMD – Episode 24 of “Chambers Talks: A Podcast Series with John Chambers”

Since the dawn of the Digital Age, innovation and technology have ignited debates about the impact on society. Hot debates have been sparked about the future of work and other pressing issues in boardrooms, trade union offices, and city halls across America. Over time, though, these fears are often proven unfounded. The Internet and cloud computing, for example, have created more jobs and new business models than they’ve destroyed.

Now that AI has truly started to go mainstream, there was no better time to have my latest #podcast guest on #ChambersTalks for a discussion. My good friend and AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su chatted with me about her belief that AI and other emerging technologies will enhance human productivity and help us – as individuals, businesses, and society – accomplish more than we could ever have imagined. As digital acceleration increases and new technologies come onto the scene even more quickly, the question will continue to emerge: how can business leaders create real value for stakeholders and promote #TechForGood?

Dr. Su points to AMD’s partnerships in response to the COVID-19 pandemic as an example of how technology has been used for the benefit of society. Back in 2020, as the virus swept the globe, the race was on for the world’s research community to develop a vaccine. AMD, in partnership with others in the private and public sectors, created a vast number of supercomputing resources so that academic institutions, government institutions, and research facilities could amass the substantial horsepower needed to help vaccine development efforts. Beyond COVID-19, AMD’s passion for advancing high-performance computing is core to its mission to help partners and customers solve key challenges, such as energy and climate, education, and more.

There are a lot of great leadership takeaways from this conversation with Dr. Su too, including the need for more women role models in tech, the importance of culture – especially one that is focused on teamwork, collaboration, diversity, and inclusion – the value of feedback, and more.?If you enjoy this conversation as much as I did, leave “Chambers Talks: A Podcast Series with John Chambers” a 5-star review – and don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss any future episodes.

Wow! Thank you John Chambers and Dr. Lisa Su for this excellent and thoughtful discussion about leadership, culture, communication, the whole set of questions about how to think about technology and to make positive differences across the world and within teams. The questions you ask and this conversation is outstanding. I really liked the insightful questions discussed, observations and the topics discussed as well as candor in sharing your wisdom and experience and key insights. For example, the secret that Dr. Lisa Su shared about growing as a leader by changing the mindset and learning to "run toward problems" and accept responsibility and challenges. I recall while working at Cisco 15+ years in deploying, new emerging technologies, products, and Unified Communications technologies with your leadership and leadership teams, the great importance of culture that you established that became the great engine of value creation across the organization to drive innovation, change and execution and strategy. Thank you for these podcast series and your excellent publications. fyi.
