Tech Giants File Legal Argument to Support US Clean Power Plan
I was just at an International Bar Association conference on Energy and Infrastructure challenges in the 21st century. It won't surprise anyone that there was a lot of discussion about climate change.
As many of you know, last year the US Environmental Protection Agency announced a rule to cut carbon emissions from existing power plants. The rule has been the subject of numerous legal challenges.
US climate change initiatives have numerous implications for Canada but one of the things that I didn't know was that Amazon, Apple, Google and Microsoft have jointly filed a legal argument supporting the EPA's Plan. Regardless of how you feel about various climate change initiatives, it was interesting to me that these major brands would choose to weigh in so strongly on something that, at first glance, may not seem like a core part of their business, and is the subject of strongly held views.
