Showcasing manufacturers of the most innovative technology, products and services in the built environment, Excel London
The climate emergency may be the greatest challenge of our lifetime. The journey to zero carbon is going to be critical for the construction sector, and BE-ST exists to support the success of this transition. While we know this won’t happen overnight, we also know we cannot afford to delay action.?
Each year, we invite industry, academia and public sector to come together for BE-ST Fest - the UK’s largest festival for a net-zero carbon built environment – and this year is no different. BE-ST Fest 2024 takes place in just a few weeks and will provide the platform for the transformative discussions and knowledge exchange we need to turn ambition and ideas into real-world impact. Don’t wait for change, lead it — diversity and sustainability in construction?
By Funmbi Adeagbo, keynote speaker at BE-ST Fest 2024??
Driving change in construction and the built environment is not about waiting for others to take the lead - it’s about stepping up, being visible, and inspiring others to follow. That’s where Funmbi Adeagbo, a British Chartered Architect, social activist, and passionate advocate for sustainable architecture and diversity, believes real progress will happen.?
Why on earth isn’t the government engaging with architects on retrofit?
Kunle Barker argues that the government's retrofitting plans will face serious issues, like mould, if architects are not involved from the start. He highlights architects' expertise in critical areas such as ventilation, insulation, and building breathability, which contractors often lack. Citing a case in Luton where poor insulation caused mould, Barker warns that excluding architects could lead to wasted resources and missed sustainability goals. He urges the government to engage architects early on to ensure retrofitting projects are done correctly and effectively, preventing costly mistakes and improving housing quality.
We're making an Impact?in everything we do, with a strong focus on building our capacity to upskill the sector.?
Over the next year, we will embark on our own journey to deeply retrofit the A Lab building at our campus. This project will expand our platform for training, enhance the sector’s knowledge, and improve understanding of how to retrofit large-scale existing buildings. As we tackle the global challenge of achieving net-zero in the built environment, BE-ST is committed to playing a central role in this journey.
Some of the programmes and projects supporting this, are:
Alongside trusted training provider Coaction Training CIC, BE-ST is offering Passvihaus Practical Training for Tier 1 supply chain members working on commercial, educational, public service and residential projects at scale. Learn directly from the UK’s most experienced Passivhaus practitioners by exploring real-life scenarios using our bespoke training rigs and undertake rapid upskilling. Book here.
BE-ST HeatSource Champion, Sunamp, produces heat batteries. These are energy-saving thermal stores that deliver heating or cooling reliably, safely and efficiently. The HeatSource project connects organisations like Sunamp into an extensive clean heat industry network in Scotland in order to collaborate and knowledge share.
