Tears For Ukraine

Tears For Ukraine

Sometimes we talk about music, songs, and lyrics and how emotional they can be. It can bring tears to our eyes, yet we can move on with our life.

In that way, it can be superficial like that, because it doesn't directly affect us. We forget the real attachment, the gravity, and the reality of it because we see it on the news, and yeah we pay more at the pump but otherwise, we can walk away from it. We may not be attached to it as we move on in our lives but the fact is, is that people are actually living it in real-time.

However, there can be intersections in our lives that reveal our connection. Call it coincidence, by chance of circumstance, but really, if you dig enough or just wait it comes to you.

Interestingly, the song Tears For Ukraine has that built into the song. As people reach out to me, that road leads right back to my hometown, to my family from another family. I'm thankful for that because it keeps it real in my mind and reminds me that people in this world are experiencing a complete disruption. Torn out of their existence, torn from families, and losing people, forced to say goodbye and the uncertainty of ever seeing someone again.

What I mean by that is a story sent by my sister referring to that kind of connection that I want to share.

From my sister

"There are tears in the Duzey/Whalen home tonight. Reason #1 Billy's song. Reason #2 our shared Big Rapids experience. Reason #3 This morning Olya heard from a friend that made it to Poland after 8 days."

So as we finalize the lyrics with the understanding of what is transpiring in another place in the world and we see that the lyric is alive in the song in current events. It doesn't escape my mind the seriousness and sadness of what is happening in Ukraine.

And when I receive a note, regarding that very real situation, it truly makes me understand the why, why the song was written, why this all happened and it's all for this.

“Please tell Billy that we were moved to tears by his song. The Ukrainian community is sharing it.”

Thanks to my sister Diane for that, thank you Bob W. for sending the note.

So when I shed a tear listening to this song which I do every time I go back to it, they are real tears, and I know it's for a real situation happening in this world right now. They need to know we see them, we hear them, our hearts are with them.

That means everything to me : )
