THE GRANITE MOUNTAIN HOTSHOTS, PRESCOTT ARIZONA: I'm recommending this movie not because I've seen it; I haven't -- it doesn't open for nine more days, and not because I'm from Arizona; though I am and happy to say so, but because I am proud of these heroic and self-sacrificing men, from a small Arizona town, because they were real-life American heroes (not superheroes) and because they harken back to a time when everyday Americans knew a hero when they saw one! But don't take my word for it, Variety had this to say: "Whether audiences realize it or not, there’s a battle underway for control of the box office — superheroes vs. real-life heroes — and this represents a worthy example of the latter, in which a group of back-slapping, tobacco-spitting, interchangeably handsome guys succeed in making distinct impressions. Their fate, no mystery to those who followed the Yarnell Fire in 2013, is further suggested by the title (the opening words of a quotation by Greek historian Dionysius), and yet, “Only the Brave” handles it in such a powerful way that if cinemas could collect all the tears spilled on their floors, America’s next wildfire wouldn’t stand a chance." Out of the 20 men who ran towards the fire, tragically only one man survived. The rest gave firefighters and bravery a hallowed place in every American heart.
