"Tear Down That Wall!"

"Tear Down That Wall!"

As Christian leaders, you often find yourselves at the crossroads of difficult decisions and strained relationships. There are moments when someone wrongs us—a partner betrays our trust, an employee disappoints us, or a competitor takes advantage. In the wake of such events, our natural inclination may be to hold onto that hurt. But what if that very unforgiveness is a wall, not only blocking our spiritual growth but also preventing us from thriving in our relationships, both at work and in life?

Forgiveness is not about excusing the wrong that was done. It's not about pretending it didn’t happen. Rather, forgiveness is about freeing ourselves from the chains of resentment, bitterness, and anger. These emotions, left unchecked, can grow like weeds, choking the healthy relationships and grace that God wants to cultivate in our lives.

Jesus is clear about forgiveness in Scripture. He teaches us to forgive not just once or twice, but seventy times seven (Matthew 18:22). This isn’t just for the sake of those who wrong us—it's for our own spiritual health. Unforgiveness becomes a wall, blocking the flow of grace that we need. It hardens our hearts and distorts our perspective, preventing us from fully experiencing the freedom that Christ offers.

As business leaders, the burden of holding a grudge can weigh heavy. It stifles creativity, disrupts collaboration, and robs us of peace. More importantly, it hampers our ability to lead in a way that honors God. Forgiveness, on the other hand, opens the door to healing, restoration, and grace. It allows us to lead from a place of strength and integrity, reflecting Christ’s love and mercy in our actions.

So, where do you stand today? Is there someone you need to forgive? Is the wall of unforgiveness keeping you from the grace and peace that God desires for you?

Reflect on these questions:

  1. Are there unresolved hurts or grievances in your business or personal life that are preventing you from leading with grace?
  2. How has holding onto unforgiveness impacted your relationship with God and those around you?
  3. What steps can you take today to break down the wall of unforgiveness and experience the fullness of God’s grace in your leadership?

Forgiveness is hard, but it's necessary. As we seek to honor Christ in all we do, let’s commit to breaking down those walls and allowing His grace to flow freely in our leadership and lives.
