TEAPOT ISLAND

As you sip at your delicious hot tea and wander slowly back to your desk from one of UKVending’s Klix drinks machines spare a thought for those people who still have to brew their tea in a teapot. It is a time honoured, labour intensive thing; but it is still a thing of wonder that produces a great cup of tea. Some people actually prefer the taste produced in a teapot, which may go some way to explaining Teapot Island.

 No, it’s not something we’ve invented to amuse you, there genuinely is a place called Teapot Island, it’s located in the small village of Yalding, outside of Maidstone in Kent. As you cross over the River Medway you step inside a tea shop that is home to over 7600 teapots! Yes 7600 different, rare and sometimes unique teapots from all over the world. It is a tea pot brewing fantasy.

 The museum come teashop was created in April 2003 and even has as a patron HRH the Prince of Wales who was said to be both fascinated, delighted and amused with the collection which includes rarities such as a Winston Churchill teapot and even one you should only really use on ‘May the 4th’ – a Darth Vader teapot! May the Force be with you, get it?

 Whilst the teapot collection is relatively new the café on the site started way back in the 1950’s and makes a lovely place to visit on a summer’s day sampling cream and strawberry jam scones and a lovely, er….pot of tea by the River Medway.
