Teamwork: Unlock your potential

In professional life we often lookup at the successful people, our role models. You must have imagined your role model as an individual/s. For example, I imagined Steve Jobs and Narayan Murthy.

But the truth is they did not pull the stunt alone. They had a team, they may be the face of the team, but it was team work which created Apple and Infosys.

Council, Committee, Panel, Board, squad, crew, troupe, band, family, friends, etc. are teams with different goals and purpose.

One person may come up with an idea of Apple, Infosys, or the greatest architectures of the world, but it is the team who executes it and converts that idea into reality.

In IT I have seen developers working in silos and doing good, but I can give you top 5 reasons that why you should be a good team player to get success in IT –

1. Individual success is limited, you cannot handle big projects in time.
2. Master everything, often we are limited with our skill set, but with a right mix of people a team can be formidable.
3. Group mindset keeps you at your best, philosophy here is “if one can do it then I can also do it.” For example, I had seen certifications as a big task where people doubt on themselves, but when one person in the group clears it then other also clears it, the unachievable goals look more achievable when someone in the group achieved it.
4. Power of Master Mind, in the book “Think and Grow Rich” Napoleon Hill has emphasised that two minds are more powerful than one, if you are having a master mind group which is in same pursuit as of you then its like nitrite oxide in your bike. Believe me hundreds of times me and my team has solved the issues which looked near to impossible when we all tried that individually.
5. Leadership 101, no one become a leader without being part of the group/team. Evolve from team player to team lead
