TEAMWORK
CKH Group is the epitome of a true team. We all hear this term thrown around quite often but I'm not certain most get it. Recently we hosted some of our employees, customers, and friends to an Atlanta Braves game.
As I sat back at the baseball game and reflect on our team at CKH Group we are about as diverse as they come. This is a positive and not a negative. Often times senior leaders want to hire people just like them, but I would warn each that is not always the right approach. Our team has so much talent and do so many things on a daily basis that our internal success comes from the differences rather than the similarities. One similarity is that we all work hard and take pride in what we do so that we can exceed expectations.

Often times we get to our destination from different paths but that is what makes us strong. We are excited about who we are, where we come from and where we are going as a team. Building teams is not an easy task. I was speaking with one of our customers at the game about the book, "Good to Great", written by Jim Collins. In summary, he informs readers to get the right people on the bus first and then worry about what seat he or she should sit in. I believe this approach is the right way. Having shared experiences outside of the office is vital to building a solid team.
We get a better understanding of the family dynamics and ultimately what drives us to have a desire to be successful. I've conducted numerous seminars to thousands of people over the years and the one thing I have always told people is that cultural fit is more important than the job itself. You can have the best background in the world but if you don't fit the culture of the organization then more than likely it will not work out in the long run. In my career, I would advise that sometimes the best team members in the organization may not be the fastest or smartest but are the ones who understand the culture and execute on the desired intent. Build teams based on cultural fit and not necessarily on skill set. Skills can be taught but you either fit the culture or you don't.
