Teamwork is the key for success for any team and I was thinking how could I achieve it the Mahi way?
The weekend that went by was certainly another busy one, with a lots of frenzy and news abuzz, but M.S. Dhoni’s announcement of his retirement was one of the topmost. In a cricket frenzy nation like India, I am quite sure even if one is not a cricket follower, the name Dhoni/MSD is a household name. When MSD announced his retirement in his typical and quiet fashion, many from the cricketing world, India and the sports fraternity have been writing about their thoughts.
I am a huge fan of how MSD managed a high-performing team which always shouldered heavy burden from extremely high expectations from the fans and other stakeholders. I realized that I was turning into a huge fan awaiting his post-match speeches and to pick on the in-numerous cues on management topics including leadership, team work etc. In fact, I would like to see a compilation of all his speeches to become a management book by itself!
For today, I picked-up the key word as Teamwork and what does it mean for every team which works under huge expectation on their deliverables. We need to work to achieve successful outcomes always and given whatever tough conditions we are to play under.
So, I put together my thoughts and what I have observed (completely from my view) as untold traits/behavior of a team which one would like to develop and lead (in the way MSD might have started when he took the reins as a captain of any new team he was to lead). I have jotted them here and would love to hear your thoughts too.
Treat everyone as you may like to be treated
Empathize with others; each one has a job they are assigned to
Amplify the effect of working as one team – make the maximum
More the Merrier (read as new challenges and opportunities)
Winning together
Oneness
Respect others and their time
Kickout politics and procrastination and Kick-start on practicing all the points cited above (only if you have not been practicing)
I am sure that there are many more key things or different abbreviations one can imagine and relate to. But I see that in teamwork, if we can achieve all that is listed above, we may very well build trust naturally and behave as ONE TEAM.
Let me know what do you think..

4 年Well written Prasanna., could relate to most of the things... And he would always stood behind when the team work was successful and be at the front when they did not succeed. His ability to let the batsman, bowler do what they want to execute and not interfere is also a great sign for team work, be there to guide when they need but let them do things independently...

4 年Well written Prasanna Aravamudhan! Indeed teamwork is dreamwork. Teams with high trust, camaraderie and zero/no politics achieve better results in the long run. Liked how you have explained teamwork. Keep writing!
