Teamwork, a Plan & the Unsung Heroes have helped prevent a far worse economic crisis...

This article started out as a post highlighting how we have grown and stayed together as a team, albeit remotely. So yes we are still here and the "Property Networkers" still Networking. As much as it's been great having Denise Bell on board she won't mind me saying it's been the support and encouragement of the whole team which has certainly shone through at PNA in recent weeks. Full credit, however, must go to the "boss" Eddie Reed who, in my opinion, has led from the front immaculately during this crisis and so far showed true leadership to keep the whole team at PNA motivated, engaged, and most importantly employed. From day one - (11th March 2020) Eddie has created a plan, lead a strategy, adapted daily, and somehow found a way to create new jobs basically overnight to allow the day jobs of this team to evolve and get the most out of us in this period to date. One of the strategies Eddie implemented was our market sentiment blog series. We have conducted a huge amount of market research in the last few weeks through our series of market sentiment blogs and its clear amongst many of our findings that there are a lot of unsung heroes like Eddie out there in the property industry.

Staying away from commenting on the health sector, as rightly so this is the priority, and focusing only on the property sector, I feel compelled to make this point. There has been huge attention/coverage on retailers in the media, who have suffered from this crisis so far but I'm yet to see much or any outward support for the leaders of the small to medium-sized - (4 - 25 person) professional service providers/ agents/ project consultants /advisors/developers/accountants/lawyers/contractors within in the property industry. These owners, the guys who had the dream, guts, and vision to start their own firm and employ staff and create culture/ career paths and stability for employees have now had to work through all of this crisis whilst keeping their businesses moving forward. These heroes have had to adapt daily and mostly on their own without the network/guidance/support/ infrastructure or financial backing of government / national or international corporations. I'm sure it has been the biggest challenge for many of these owners in their business journey to date. YES, government financial support has helped in some way and stopped immediate redundancies and foreclosures, but every employee in these businesses must realise that it certainly hasn't totally removed finance difficulty /stress /anxiety associated with the growth of these firms nor the continued future growth which will be impacted by the consequences not just now but also in the short/mid-term future. Many of the owners of these businesses have sacrificed their own personal goals, profits, wealth and sleep to keep their businesses afloat in recent weeks and where possible keep staff employed in some way or form in order to keep the wheels turning.

When some form of normality returns, I hope everyone in local business communities come together and remembers that shopping locally doesn't just mean in supermarkets, it has to be implemented across all sectors. I am 100% certain, although it's only my opinion, the only reason the unemployment numbers and economic crisis hasn't worsened is because of the many many brave SME owner/operators in all sectors in all communities, like Eddie, who haven't yet panicked, didn't put profit first and have found an alternative way to making redundancies at the first instance.

This isn't the end; businesses may still lose staff as no one knows what will happen next. However, its been 7 weeks since Wednesday 11th March, the day the WHO declared a World Pandemic due to the Covid 19 outbreak, and we are still together so Thank You, Eddie, on behalf of all of the PNA team. If anyone reading this is still in fulltime /or reduced employment in these types of SME businesses and have seen their service output effected by this outbreak then I'd encourage every single one of you to take the opportunity to do the same and say thank you to your boss!

It will mean a lot to them, they just don't know it will. I could name lots of people like Eddie out in the Property sector there but like him, they don't care.... they know who they are and they are too busy thinking, leading and keeping their business running to read this anyway.!! They just keep going AGAIN.

Meet the PNA Team....

Good words Jon Fenech - unsung heroes exist in many forms. Glad PNA is still cracking on, I’ve no doubt you’re putting the graft in to ensure it thrives too mate. That undeniable work ethic and persistence will be serving you well I’m sure of that. Hope you’re all well and safe.

Too true Jon Fenech. It is the unsung heroes who turn up every day and go about their business without fanfare that deserve recognition (including the healthcare sector). All too often the importance of those people who make personal sacrifices for the continued benefit of others is forgotten or swept under the carpet. Well done for acknowledging and send me a PM when you get your pay rise. If it is a decent one then might get you to negotiate mine......haha
