Teamwork
The success of a team is not dependent on any one individual, rather it is dependent on all the team participants performing a task. There will be one player who is more talented, or who contributes more than others more consistently, but that player is still dependent on how well the other players contribute. When Michael Jordan, the great basketball player arrived in Chicago, it took five difficult years before his greatness started to truly appear. Why? He was an extremely talented player from the start. He had all the tools and fundamentals a coach could ever ask for. He even had a decent team around him. But in his first 5 years, the team did not perform that well. They were above average but no more. Everything hinged on Michael Jordan;s ability and he tried to do everything he could. But as a team you cannot do everything. There was one thing missing. While Chicago added a few key talented players, it was Michael Jordan who began to evolve from a great player, to a great team player. Suddenly, he learned how to raise the level of play of his teammates and their contribution. In doing so, it made him a better leader and a much more dangerous player. Michael Jordan without the ball became far more dangerous because his teammates could contribute without him, but still had him to go to at any moment. The team gelled into one of the best of all time simply because Jordan allowed his teammates to reach their potential. The human body is really just a great team with the brain as the leader. It knows how to allow each of the different parts to maximize their potential which makes the brain incredibly amazing. During a given day or a given exercise, one system can step up and contribute more in order to make the rest of the team more powerful. If one is running, the heart has to step up and contribute more. If one is eating food, the GI tract has to step up and absorb nutrients for the greater good. If any player does not step up to perform a task in an efficient way, the whole team will suffer. A disease will appear and the body will fail as a result. The leader cannot perform all of these functions. The brain must allow every other system to do their task in order for the whole team to be successful. Since you, your conscious mind, has control over the higher functions of the brain, such as thought, memory and creativity, you are the leader of the team and your own health. Therefore you have to contribute to the team by allowing each part to become healthier and more efficient. How do you achieve this? By putting in the effort each day through exercise, nutrition and posture, you can improve the performance of all the team players. This allows your brain to precisely direct all the other players. Your brain is the captain but you are the coach. You have to practice, practice, practice each and everyday what you want the body to do. This gives the captain the ultimate power to allow the other teammates the chance to shine. Optimal health is a result of this team play. It is the great performance of all players contributing precisely their tasks at the right time to achieve health. This is the equivalent of a perfect season and a championship, except that you win every single year if you put the time in. Michael Jordan knew how valuable his teammates were. That is the key reason he was the most valuable player. That is why he won 6 years in row that he was part of the team.
