Teampulse Talks #1 with Charlene Brown, DEI Manager from Disney

We are excited to announce the successful launch of Teampulse Talks community and our inaugural event featuring the incredible Charlene Brown , DEI manager at Disney General Entertainment Content .

Teampulse Talks is a community for professionals interested in effective people management, whether you're in HR, a manager leading your team, an employee, or a founder. It's a community created by our company, Teampulse , with the support of The Front Yard at Pace University . Teampulse is a corporate team building platform designed to enhance team communication, engagement, and efficiency through wellness and socialization activities. The Front Yard at Pace University is a business program at Pace University that bridges startups, businesses, and students with universities.

On February 22nd, we successfully launched our first offline event with Charlene Brown, Disney's DEI manager, and I'm thrilled to report that it was a resounding success.

We held a panel discussion covering topics such as people management, team leadership, HR department building, the concept of healthy DEI, and why traditional happy hours may no longer be effective. The key takeaways from the discussion were:

  1. Listen to yourself and follow your goals and values. Choose a job and a company that aligns with your values, and spend your time on things that resonate with your perspective.
  2. DEI is about equality and diversity, not just meeting quotas on paper. While everyone should have equal rights, building an innovative company requires diversity in backgrounds and perspectives.
  3. Dialogue is one of the most important tools. Communicate with HR, your manager, your employees, and each other. Failure to communicate with HR and managers can be detrimental and inefficient.
  4. There needs to be a balance between providing employees with creativity and activity and the priorities and goals of the company, which should be aligned with all staff.
  5. Happy hours is not a solution to engage and bring people together; create an environment that fosters effective work and personal life and focus on your people that shares your values and goals.

Pannel discussion

During the event, we conducted an interactive team-building activity aimed at aligning everyone's thoughts. Imagine a group of people standing in a circle, shaking hands up like a pendulum. Each participant says a word associated with what the previous participant said, creating an interesting chain reaction of words, passing around the circle. When everyone's hands are up, it can create tension and require quick thinking to maintain the flow of the game. It's not only fun but also promotes team connection and be on the same emotional page.

Additionally, Charlene Brown kindly offered participants personal career-building consultations. We are thrilled to have Charlene as a member of our community and grateful for her contributions to other participants.
