#TeamMITRE Spotlight: Marian Moriarty
?In honor of Intergenerational Month, we’re recognizing MITRE employees from our Multigenerational Business Resource Group to learn more about their work and impact at MITRE and in the community. Meet Marian.
“As co-chair of the Multigenerational Business Resource Group, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many people from different generations which has helped me to feel more connected and build stronger relationships with people in other parts of the organization. I feel that I’m an important part of MITRE!”
At MITRE, Marian’s work supports the Veterans Administration Central Office and Veterans Health Administration as it works to help improve access to care and services for Veterans, their families, caregivers, and survivors. In her role, Marian ensures MITRE projects solve the VA’s most challenging and pervasive strategic healthcare policy, modernization, and administration challenges.
Q: Tell us about a time when someone from a different generation positively impacted your life.
MM: I love working with MITRE’s brilliant early career colleagues who bring important and different perspectives, enthusiasm, and critical thinking skills to each project. I learn so much from them on every project. For example, in large projects for the Census Bureau and FDA a couple of years ago, multiple early career colleagues working on both projects with me were able to plan large scale stakeholder engagement events that were executed flawlessly. Their insights and expertise in how to engage different stakeholder generations, and use technology effectively to do so, were critical to the success of the events.
Q: Tell us about your volunteer efforts or service you’re doing in the community.
MM: After being a caregiver for many years for my mother, I now have more time to volunteer and have begun to seek opportunities to help with church and community related food drives and events.

Q: Who inspires you most and why?
MM: I am most inspired by our two children who teach my husband and me every day about trying new things, perseverance, overcoming adversity, and living in the moment. Our son is pursuing his dream of a professional golf career and is working hard every day to be successful at it. He constantly reads or listens to podcasts related to fitness, positive thinking, gratitude, and stress management. Our daughter has worked in wilderness therapy to help at-risk youth and environmental studies and is now also selling her beautiful ceramics and jewelry. They have inspired me to finally take piano lessons, start golfing, and enjoy life right now. It’s hard to be an adult beginner and their examples have helped me to just get started and stop waiting. My husband and I learn so much from them every day!
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
MM: Travel more, take time to maintain friendships and self-care, and worry less.
