#TeamMITRE Spotlight: Liz Pollard
As we celebrate and reflect on Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we’re spotlighting MITRE employees from our Asian and Pacific Island Business Resource Group to learn more about their impactful work here and in the community. Meet Liz.
“As a community, we can come together to celebrate our accomplishments and learn more about our shared history.”
Liz Pollard’s work as a systems engineer and group leader supports the U.S. Navy to advance command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) capabilities to the warfighter. Currently, she leads an unmanned surface vehicle demo team in conducting a series of system integration test events. That initiative will culminate in live at-sea demonstrations next year.
Q: Why is Asian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month important to you?
LP: API Heritage Month means remembering our history and traditions. It’s being proud of who I am and where my family came from.
Q: Tell us about your volunteer efforts or service in the community.
LP: I’m active at my church and volunteer often with the Society of Women Engineers. I enjoy leading hands-on STEM activities with K-12 students and encourage them to pursue studies and careers in engineering.
?
Q: Who inspires you most and why?
LP: My parents. They sacrificed so much to make sure my siblings and I had every opportunity to be successful. They helped me see the value in education, hard work, and giving back to the community. I was raised in a Christian home, so my character and values are deeply rooted in my faith, discipline, humility, and love. To this day, I still treasure their advice.
Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?
LP: Go for it! Stay humble but know that you’re doing the right thing.
