#TeamMITRE Spotlight: Kim Albero
During National Veterans and Military Families Month, we’re recognizing MITRE employees from our Veterans Business Resource Group (BRG) to learn more about them and their impactful work at MITRE and in the community. Meet Kim.?
“At MITRE, I'm able to combine my experience and expertise from my time in uniform in clinical and operational settings, as well as the experiences of other Veterans, to inform work I do across government.”
As a health program analyst, Kim helps evaluate medical technology used in operational settings by medics and corpsmen to save the lives of warfighters in combat. She’s also had the opportunity to work with the Medical Disabilities Exams Office at the Veterans Benefits Agency, helping to ensure Veterans receive compensation for their service-connected conditions. ?
“Connecting with other Veterans and those with family who’ve served gives me a sense of camaraderie and shared experiences with people I may not have met through direct work or within my division. The Veterans BRG provides a platform to connect Veterans with each other and advocates. We also serve our members by facilitating access to resources for the Veteran-related causes they champion. The Veterans BRG is open to those who’ve served and those interested in learning more about military service and supporting Veterans in and outside of MITRE. Anyone is welcome to join our all-member meetings and get alerts about lunch-and- learn events about topics that impact Veterans.”
Q: How has your experience as a veteran impacted your life?
KA: Serving my country during a time of war meant being a part of a mission that helped to give my education, clinical skills, and leadership skills real purpose and meaning. Being able to share the camaraderie of other Veterans, no matter the branch in which they served, continues to be a great way to make connections at MITRE and beyond. I'm a Marine wife, the daughter and granddaughter of Coast Guard Veterans, and a Veteran myself (U.S. Navy Nurse Corps 2006-2015 on active duty, 2015-2020 in the Reserves). I can connect with people who served during different periods in different services and who were stationed in some of the same places as me and my family. I’ve always found great camaraderie among military folks and the relatable experiences we all share even if our time in service, branch of service, or duty stations don’t overlap.
