#TeamMITRE Spotlight: Carolyn Hunter
During Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re recognizing MITRE employees from our Latin American Business Resource Group (BRG) to learn more about them and their impactful work here and in the community. Meet Carolyn.
As a technical program coordinator, Carolyn manages MITRE’s job shadow program, which works to enable growth in domain-specific areas. Employees’ skills and desired growth areas are used to match them with more experienced staff to support workforce development.
“Being a part of MITRE’s Latin American Business Resource Group provides a community where I can engage with others who have similar backgrounds or interests. It has also helped me to make new connections with people in different departments and learn more about MITRE’s culture.”

Q: Share a tradition or celebration that you observe to honor your heritage.
CH: I observe Carnaval (or carnival), which is the week of celebrations leading up to Lent, usually held in February. This is celebrated widely in Latin America.
?
Q: Tell us about your volunteer efforts or service you’re doing in the community.
CH: I volunteered with MITRE’s Latin American BRG to pack over 300 backpacks for the Northern Virginia Family Service 2024 Back2School Drive. This event provided new school supplies to over 1,200 Northern Virginia Family Service clients in kindergarten through 12th grade.

Q: Who inspires you most and why?
CH: My mother, who passed 3 months ago. She moved to a new country as a single mother with four young children and worked hard to give us what we needed. I live my life with the teachings that she gave me. She continues to be my biggest inspiration.
?
Q: What’s your proudest moment in life?
CH: Completing my college degree at 52 years old. It is never too late!
