Teaming Up to Reach Every Human Trafficking Victim and Survivor
Marriott International and UMD Safe Center announced the nationwide expansion of Future in Training Curriculum

Teaming Up to Reach Every Human Trafficking Victim and Survivor

The theme of the United Nations’ World Day Against Trafficking in Persons last month highlighted the need to try and reach every victim of human trafficking and leave no one behind. Doing this is a global effort and one? 万豪酒店 ?is proud to support alongside the broader hospitality industry. Hotels are vulnerable to traffickers who use them as places of exploitation. It is our collective responsibility to help tackle this issue and I’m pleased to share some recent progress.??

Marriott has long been committed to advancing human rights and empowering through opportunity as part of our core value to Serve Our World.??

Our efforts to empower survivors through employability took another step forward when Marriott International and the University of Maryland Support, Advocacy, Freedom, and Empowerment (SAFE) Center for Human Trafficking Survivors jointly announced plans to scale the Future in Training (FiT) Curriculum. FiT is a trauma-informed job readiness program that will be deployed across 11 metropolitan areas in the U.S. for survivors of human trafficking interested in hospitality careers. We first developed the FiT Curriculum in collaboration with the Global Fund to End Modern Slavery (GFEMS) in 2018 and it is incredible to see how far we’ve come. Through the Curriculum, we can accelerate the path to meaningful careers for survivors and fill a market-based need for trained talent. By July 2024, we expect 150 survivors to be trained in hospitality skills.??

The nationwide expansion of the FiT Curriculum, led by the?SAFE?Center, is supported by an inaugural grant from the AHLA Foundation ?No Room for Trafficking Survivor Fund. Marriott was thrilled to join The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation ?to make a contribution to this Fund several months ago.?

Our survivor empowerment efforts are an important complement to an anti-trafficking milestone we celebrated last year as we reached more than a million Marriott associates trained in human trafficking awareness. Crucial to curbing human trafficking is education. We are pleased to share that the trainings we donated to PACT?(formerly ECPAT-USA) with support from the AHLA Foundation in 2020 and 2022 have also hit an important milestone—one million completions outside Marriott.

Thank you to PACT, Polaris and the AHLA Foundation for collaborating on these important initiatives and helping us drive progress for the industry.?

Thank you for helping raise awareness and supporting victims of human trafficking.

Recently stayed in a Marriott hotel and noticed many signs regarding the means to report trafficking. Kudos Marriott and Tony Capuano!
