Over the last year or so I have been conducting more and more teambuilding events. As teams have transitioned to working in a hybrid environment leaders are finding that it is critical to bring the teams together fully at some point to conduct some sort of teambuilding event as well as re-establish and align around the vision and strategic goals of a the team within the organization.
Here are a few benefits of teambuilding events:
- Employee Engagement and Satisfaction: A strong team fosters a sense of belonging and purpose among its members, leading to higher job satisfaction and reduced turnover rates.
- Enhanced Productivity: When teams function cohesively, tasks are completed more efficiently, leading to increased productivity and higher quality outcomes.
- Addressing Challenges more effectively - when teams come together they can tackle complex challenges more effectively by brainstorming together as well as bringing together collective insights.
What are some of the most effective ways to teambuild? Well I have been using some of the following strategies:
- Use an Assessment - assessments such as the DISC assessment around behavioral styles, SDI around motivations and StrengthsFinder around strengths are all great assessments to use. These assessments allow for individuals to learn more about themselves, about others on their team, and then how to work more effectively together.
- Clarify vision and strategies for the team - when bringing a team back together aligning the team, including new team members, can be very effective in bringing the group together and providing clarity around the big picture.
- Address challenges to the strategy - by brainstorming what could be getting in the way of implementing the strategic goals team members begin to outline what they need to address in order to move forward.
- Create action plans - team members can then put together action plans to address these challenges and create working groups to implement those action plans after the session is completed.
