Team Spotlight: Kylee Kurtz

Meet Kylee Kurtz, Accounting Manager at The BAM Companies! Hired in 2018 as a Property Manager, Kylee has earned three promotions in nearly seven years with the company, culminating in her current role. She now supports The BAM Companies through her accounting expertise, primarily focusing on the BAM Construction team. She spends her days managing critical portfolio accounting functions, including accounts payable and utility and renovation accounting.

What’s your favorite part about working for The BAM Companies?

I know everyone says this, but there's a reason for that, and it's the people! I have gained so many amazing relationships throughout my 7 years at The BAM Companies.?

How long have you been in accounting? What has your career trajectory looked like??

I have been in accounting for 6 years, but before that, I was a Property Manager at Fountain Parc which was acquired by The BAM Companies in 2018. It’s funny because I actually say that I didn’t choose accounting, accounting chose me, because it was a gut feeling I had to apply for the Accounting Associate position at corporate when I was on maternity leave in the Fall of 2018, and it is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.?

Who inspired you to pursue the accounting field and how did they inspire you?

This is such an easy question for me to answer. Emilee Meyers, our Chief of Staff, inspired me. When The BAM Companies acquired Fountain Parc, Emilee was the Director of Finance and Operations. After knowing her for a few months, I knew if there was ever an opportunity to work on her team, I would take it. Emilee took a chance on me with having zero accounting experience and I am so glad she did.?

What’s the best advice you can give to someone who just started their career?

Show up early and be eager to learn.?

What’s your favorite project BAM Construction has completed during your time here?

My favorite project BAM Construction has completed is definitely The Gallery Apartments. We renovated every unit and also did renovations to the common areas.?

How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

It has evolved a lot. I have had three promotions at The BAM Companies, and in 2024 I was asked to be the Chairperson for our Employee Events committee, which is a big deal here because we like to party! When I started at The BAM Companies, we only had 46 employees, and now we have close to 200. It’s been fun growing along with the company.

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned from your colleagues?

Always speak up for what is right. This is why the culture is so great at The BAM Companies.

What’s your favorite memory from your time so far at The BAM Companies?

I have a lot of great memories here at The BAM Companies, but one that sticks out to me the most is working on our BAMily Tree we created this past year. It evolved into something so special and I had a lot of fun working closely with a few other BAMFAM members.

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love to hang out with my son Stanley. He is 6 years old and loves sports. He’s currently playing basketball, which is my favorite. I love going shopping, girl dinners, and watching murder mystery shows. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen every single one.?

What would your perfect weekend look like?

A weekend getaway that includes a beach and seafood!?

What’s the most recent movie you’ve seen? What would you rate it on a scale from 1-10?

The Union—I give it an 8 out of 10. I love Mark Wahlberg, so I am always down to watch one of his movies!?
