Do You Have Team Players on Your Squad?
A productive team with the right attitude is necessary for high level production and output in any type of organization.
To achieve maximum production every single individual needs to adopt a mindset that will enable them to work as part of a group, to best achieve the collective goals of the organization.
Sometimes in business there are high producers who are not the best team players. And sometimes you have great team players who do not produce.
The pursuit of leadership is to find people who fill all the slots that are high producers and also great team players.
But this is easier said than done, because businesses do need cash-flow to pay the bills, and to keep the operation moving forward.
You can quickly and easily see though who has the right collective team mindset when looking at those around you and how they have handled the coronavirus outbreak.
Have they adopted the social distancing mind-set that is necessary for the collective good of society?
Or are they acting like a maverick and disregarding the data about the importance of flattening the curve because it is causing them a life disruption to behave in a social distancing lifestyle?
In Michigan, we have had excellent leadership at the state and community levels, cancelling schools, cancelling outings that exceed 50 people, promoting work from home, promoting at home online learning for children in school, closing restaurants and bars, etc.
These are hard decisions to make. They cause disruption. And they create a tremendous amount of financial strain on companies, especially those in small businesses.
Families are also disrupted, kids are at home instead of school, and parents are trying their best to be productive while working from home.
I am proud to be a part of this local society, where the leaders have made the right decisions to promote social distancing. These decisions are data driven and aimed at stopping the collective spread of the virus which adds a collective benefit for society.
In business we need people on our teams who can work towards the collective benefit of the organization.
We need people who can still be productive while working from home, and are willing to step up to the challenges faced during times of extreme challenge and difficulty. We need people who can follow the guidelines set forth regarding social distancing because it is the right move for the collective, greater society.
If you are in human resources or if you are a hiring authority and you are currently interviewing candidates, ask the candidate what their perspective is on the coronavirus social distancing concept, and you will quickly get an understanding if that candidate is a team player, or not.
