As Nurses, we need each team member, including Nurse Practitioners and Doctors.

I have been following our group discussions with great interest. One discussion that came up recently and received a lot of interest was the one about RNs as opposed to LVNs. I read most of the comments that were posted. I was kind of disappointed at some and very encouraged by other comments.

As we are preparing to embark on this new career for some, I wanted to shed a bit of light from my perspective about the Nursing Scope of Practice. I think we need to set the record straight right at the beginning of our careers so that we understand the need for each level of nursing education.

Marie Peppers LPN has put together a first-class program that is very cost-effective considering the package. Her Chronic Care Manager Mini-course is amazing! The first impression I got when I joined the groups was positive energy. Straight away I could sense that this group of nurses was one and had a lot of respect for each other. So, where there is a large group of people/nurses, some would like to air their views and shed light in a negative way which can sow seeds of doubt in others.

This brings me to the topic of the Scope of Nursing. We all belong to the interdisciplinary team. “Each State’s Nurse Practice Act is determined through the boards of nursing. Nurses use the scope of practice to guide them in varying work environments to ensure they are practicing and providing care within the confines of the law”. So there should be no stepping on each other’s toes or looking down on other professionals. As Nurses, we need each team member, including Nurse Practitioners and Doctors. Oh, and I can't forget Social Workers and other Health Care Team Members...

Let us make the spirit of Florence Nightingale proud, instead of bringing tears and disgrace to her soul. We are each going to need support as we branch out and work from home for different companies. We have been given the opportunity to shine and show other nurses that united we stand divided we fall. Our patients need us.
