Dealing with a team member who misses deadlines?

It’s easy to point fingers at the individual, but before jumping to conclusions, let’s zoom out.

As leaders, we need to ask ourselves: Is this issue a symptom of something larger at play?

If our team’s mission and priorities aren’t crystal clear—and just as important, if we haven’t communicated what we’re not doing—people will inevitably drift into work that isn’t aligned with our goals. And that often leads to missed deadlines.

Also, don’t forget: employees sometimes lack the power to push back when new tasks get piled on.?

So, before assuming it’s a matter of poor time management, take a good look at your own leadership and your team’s environment. Are we setting them up to succeed?
