Sometimes the biggest and most satisfying rewards can come from the things we do for nothing! Receiving a call last Wednesday morning from concerned organisers in our home village, we were asked if there was any way we could help with a big screen at the local fete to show the World Cup 2018 quarter final between England and Sweden, so that people would still come and support the event.
Being the techies that we are; we couldn’t resist the challenge and arrived at 8am on Saturday morning with a selection of tools, a 20 year-old marquee and a curtain sided Luton Van [along with a few vital trade supplies].
3 hours later, we had a fan zone with a live BBC web feed projecting onto a 120” screen inside the load area of the Luton Van. With 2 hours to spare, we even had time to rig up a crude system to keep spectators cool whilst watching the match!
The afternoon was great fun, the village fete was great and the bar was drunk dry; a huge success all round! For 3 hours we felt like the A-Team as we put our collective minds to the challenge and we had great fun in the process! It is true what they say, variety is the spice of life!
Now back to the day job!
