Team Leader vs People pleaser
I would like to continue using football team as an example for the title above. As a football manager it is his duty to be a team leader because football is a team play not an individual play. But sometimes manager as a human being can be emotionally attached to individuals which he trusted more for some reasons, such as debt of gratitude in the past, historical relationship in the past, same origin, same hobby etc. Consequently the manager's professionalism can be vague with preference to a certain individuals. This kind of attitude will jeopardize the team effectiveness which will at the end reflected to their performance.
Many football managers have failed to bring their teams to their highest level of performance due to this kind of practice, giving priorities for some individuals that he knew when they were together in different teams and were performing well, but when joining the new team is unable to duplicate the same performance, but the manager is still inssisting to place him on the winning eleven (or loosing eleven?).
This kind of manager is a People pleaser that prioritize his emotional attachment to certain individuals. He always care what other people thinks and wants to be perceived as a nice boss. On contrary professional manager such as Sir Alex Ferguson has demonstrated a clear line between emotional relationship and how to maintain his professionalism. I recalled that even David Beckham was not treated as a superstar and their relationship ended with Sir Alex Ferguson kick a boot at Beckham.

Similar in a company that is a team play, the leader may have a preference to certain individuals with more trust given even though he/she may not performing well (or even may not be competent). The people pleaser practice will blunt the "stick and carrot" mechanism as if the company is a charity foundation without any Key Performance Indicators are linked to the individuals. At the end these individuals will become parasites to the company and demotivating to other individuals who are actually performing well for the company.
As a Team Leader, it is imperative how he/she can execute the formulated strategic management to achieve the goal. A leader should lead with heart but can't be emotionally attached which will create subjectivities and may deviate the process to achieve a goal.
When you engage in people pleasing you are out of integrity with yourself, your goals, your dreams, and your life's mission.†~EILEEN ANGLIN
