Team India One Step Away from WC 2023 Triumph

India beat New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on November 15, 2023.?

After winning the toss, India decided to bat first and put on a gigantic 397/4 runs for the Blackcaps to chase down. Virat Kohli played another sensational innings, adding 117 runs off 113 balls. It was his 50th ODI hundred, surpassing the legend Sachin Tendulkar's 49th hundred. Whereas Shreyas Iyer hit back to back hundreds by knocking 105 in just 70 balls.?

Earlier, skipper Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave India a great start. Both put on 71 runs in 8.1 overs before the former was dismissed by Tim Southee for 47 off 29 balls. Then, Kohli and Gill started blazing the Kiwi bowlers to every corner of the ground. But Gill had to abandon his batting in the middle due to cramps, forcing him to retire hurt at 79 off 60 balls. Later, KL Rahul added valuable 39 runs in just 20 balls, taking the Men in Blue to 397 for 4 in 50 overs.?

Kiwis responded positively by adding 30 runs for the first wicket before Mohd. Shami got rid of the opener Devon Conway. In his next over, Shami dismissed Rachin Ravindra. Following that, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell stitched a? valuable 181-run partnership for the third wicket. Williamson added 69 runs before Shami had him caught by Surya Kumar Yadav at the square leg boundary. A couple of balls, he dismissed Latham LBW for a duck. Kiwis lost the momentum despite Mitchell and Glenn Phillips starting to cut loose later. Jasprit Bumrah broke this partnership by dismissing Phillips for 41 runs. However, despite the loss of early wickets, Mitchell finally completed his century and later got dismissed by Shami for 134 runs. Shami bagged 7 wickets by conceding only 57 runs in 9.5 overs.
