Team Development Overview:
As part of our collaborative effort in developing the mechanical enclosure and accessories for the Mecha Compute Device, our team worked together to manage every aspect of the project, from the early planning stages to production. This project was a true example of effective cross-functional teamwork, involving mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing to deliver a product that is durable, user-friendly, and adaptable to a wide range of computing applications globally.

- Main Body Enclosure Development: As a team, we faced the challenge of optimizing the enclosure design for the Mecha Compute Device. Every engineering decision was made collaboratively, as we worked to develop features like snap-lock mechanisms for secure, waterproof fittings and ergonomic dimensions to enhance user comfort. Our collective effort focused on designing a detachable screen housing with precise measurements for easy, reliable assembly.
- Accessory Development: Expanding the project scope, our team worked together to design a suite of accessories, including a keypad, keyboard, and gamepad, which enhanced the device’s functionality. Additionally, we focused on creating a platform that would allow users and developers to create their own accessories, boosting the product’s versatility and broadening its appeal within the developer community.
- Prototype Development and Testing: After a year of rigorous design work, our team launched an alpha testing batch using additive manufacturing, producing 120 units for feedback. Over several months, we gathered valuable input from users and the electronics team, which led us to make significant design changes. The ability to pivot and adapt to feedback was vital. Through cross-departmental collaboration, we evaluated risks, challenges, and the best course of action to ensure a positive outcome. Following several months of redesign, we tested a refined prototype batch, which we showcased to gauge market interest.
- Tooling and Production Preparation: With the design phase successfully completed, our team took on the challenge of sourcing reliable vendors for high-quality tooling to prepare for mass production.
