After booking 9 segments, I tried to catch up on some messages and do a few Teams meetings to keep the pipeline going while chilling by the infinity pool overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

On my last day, some light rain started and the running joke was you'll have to stay because your flight will be cancelled.

What really happened was 2 inches of water came in under the door of my room on the second floor between 1am and 3am from Hurricane Otis.

I had been through tornados, floods, Great Quake in '89, Boston Tunnel collapse, and even the Vegas mass shooting - so I was strangely calm.

Besides Acapulco didn't have hurricanes, even though I could also hear heavy wrought iron chairs and 150-pound planters being tossed around outside.

The next morning, we were some of the lucky ones with food and running water and all the doors and windows. Unfortunately, the sister villa was not as lucky.

But there was no power or communications and all you could really do is begin to pick up furniture, wet rugs, damaged solar panels, and heavy branches.
