Team FCG Cycling Club Ghana Dubbed Second Best Team with 2nd and 10th Positions In The Professional Male Race - Fifth Annual Prudential Insurance Race

Six members of #TeamFCG squad took part in the fifth edition of the colourful & exhilarating PruRide, Ghana's finest urban cycling race—a criterium 100 km race, 6 km per lap with a total of 18 laps—on Sunday the 1st of September. They walked away with 2nd and 10th positions out of some 500 cyclists from other parts of West Africa including Nigeria and Togo.

The race started at 11am and our cyclists Maxwell, Michael, Alex, Francis, Christopher, and Richard were all spurred on by the interval training provided by Fenton the preceding week plus continuous online coaching from the team’s mentors.

It was a tough race with the team riding together and demonstrating teamwork up until the 14th lap when Michael from #TeamFCG, another cyclist from Ghana and a Nigerian cyclist decided to break away. The rest of #TeamFCG defended Michael’s break away from the two cyclists. On the last two laps Michael and the Nigerian cyclist dropped the Ghanaian cyclist and in the final lap Michael pushed to the finishing line to come second. The rest of the team struggled to get a position afterwards, but Francis also pushed to get the 10th position. A big congratulations to the entire #TeamFCG squad. Wonderful job done!

The event marked Prudential Life Insurance 10 years anniversary in Ghana and was inspired by Prudential Ride London, the biggest annual cycling festival in the world sponsored by parent company Prudential Plc UK and designed as an annual legacy from the London 2012 Olympic Games. Prudential’s interest in supporting and promoting the sport has led to similar events in Lusaka, Zambia, and other parts of the world.
