Team Effort By Midwest Food Bank Serving Tornado Victims Across Multiple States

Tornado season is a challenging time in the south, and the month of May has brought both destruction and tragedy. Midwest Food Bank has exemplified its core value of teamwork in its response. Christa Stately, executive director of the Peoria division, took the lead by sending supplies to Nebraska and Texas.

"Helping disaster victims is fundamental to the Midwest Food Bank mission," said Christa Staley, executive director of Midwest Food Bank Peoria. "We are grateful to be prepared and able to assist our neighbors in Nebraska and Texas," Staley expressed in a prepared statement.

Recently, Temple, Texas, was struck by an EF2 Tornado, leading city officials to declare a disaster. Midwest Food Bank Texas promptly assessed damages, provided first responders with fluids, and identified necessary resources.

"No matter how many disaster scenes I have worked in, it never gets any easier witnessing the scale of destruction and loss. It is heartbreaking to see entire life's work, memories, and safety gone. It is therefore this reason our commitment to teamwork, and it guides our response to these disasters." said Gareth Keown, executive director of Midwest Food Bank Texas while onsite in Temple.

Unfortunately, the forecast for the rest of the tornado season looks grim. The National Weather Service predicts that 2024 will be the most active season since 2017. On Wednesday, over 200 severe storm reports were received from New York to Texas.

If you or your company wants to help these affected communities, Midwest Food Bank is accepting donations on its website to help cover the cost of supplies and transportation fuel.
