Team Culture is Taking a Beating

Team Culture is Taking a Beating

Team Culture is taking a beating.?

Throwing better benefits at the team doesn’t change the culture.

The stats don’t lie

Finally, we’re getting down to the real issues.

Have you ever joined a company because you believed in its value statement and mission, only to find when you got there, your manager didn’t care about it??

Then you looked around and found a leader or manager that everyone flocked to. Why? Because that leader was emulating the direction of the company and animating it in a personal way that made work fun, interesting, appropriately challenging and teamwork a natural part of the plan.

Have you experienced a time when no one cared about your team culture except your own leader and the team? It’s insanity at times. But we’ve all had this experience at one point or another in our careers. I’ve watched leaders create amazing teams within organizations that were systemically dysfunctional. In my own past, I have had to do the same.?

No matter which of the three scenarios painted above you relate to most, I want you to be very aware that Team Culture is of paramount importance to employees today.? Enhanced benefits, flexible work schedules, and other adjustments as a result of the pandemic are helpful. Yet, in Pews recent research they found that 57% of employees surveyed said they felt disrespected at work. Those are the keywords for not having a positive, respectful, and productive culture where they felt they could contribute and grow.

Everyone contributes to the responsibility to create a great culture but, as a leader, you must set the example. People are overwhelmed as we recover from the challenges of the past few years. If your team is lagging, it’s time to start correcting this environment for your single more important asset – your team.

High-performing teams are bonded by a single mission (or goal), trust and collaboration. FYI, high fives do not count as a team-building activity.

What is the single mission you’ve set for your team?

Such a juicy topic, you know that I love this stuff! It’s really amazing how so many companies will devote almost no focus to standardizing the daily implementation of culture and values.

Walking the walk seems to be hard for most companies out there. And in fact it is hard. And worth it.
