Teaching: The Power of Generosity
Dear UrbanityEd,
Generosity is the act of giving [ ? ] to others in times of need. We have all performed or have witnessed acts of generosity in one form or other — donation of money, food, shelter, water, time, or even lending a helping hand.?
For centuries, schools and good family rearing have taught students the importance of generosity. As a youth, I vividly remember my elementary teachers emphasizing the importance of charity by encouraging students and parents to participate in can-good drives and coat drives to help displaced families.? In hindsight, our donations gave hopeless families hope.??
Donation Drive Ideas:?
Giving the humanitarian crisis that Ukrainians are currently facing as a result of having to flee their war-stricken country, I believe it is morally and academically proper for Educational Leaders to reignite the "Power of Generosity." Encouraging students and parents to support Ukrainians families during these tragic times is symbolic of our stance in support of freedom and democracy.
Charitable Organizations:?
Your students are aware of what is happening around them and are watching heartbreaking news coverage of Russia's ruthless war on Ukrainians. They are filled with questions and wonder what, if anything, they can do to help. What better way to teach your students that Character + Intellect matter than igniting the "Power of Generosity?" As always, I encourage you to stay safe and continue to make decisions in the best interest of your students, staff, and school district.?
