A Teaching Librarian's Journey: Five Years in Japan

Living and working as a teaching librarian in Japan for five years was an incredibly enriching experience. The cultural immersion, professional growth, and personal development I gained during this time are invaluable.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my experience was the opportunity to contribute to the academic and cultural life of the Japanese high school community. As a teaching librarian, I was able to share my knowledge and expertise in information literacy with students and faculty alike. The positive impact of this work was evident in the increased engagement and critical thinking skills of the students.

In addition to the professional benefits, living in Japan provided me with countless opportunities for personal growth. The unique blend of tradition and modernity, the breathtaking natural beauty, and the friendly and welcoming people made it a truly unforgettable experience. I was able to explore ancient temples, and immerse myself in the vibrant culture of the country.

While there were certainly challenges to overcome, such as language barriers and cultural differences, the overall experience was overwhelmingly positive. I would highly recommend living and working in Japan to anyone who is seeking a new adventure and a chance to broaden their horizons.
