Teachers and Governors at Handsworth Grammar School

S.T.A.R Consultancy and Training were asked back to this school to present to the teachers and governors, following successful presentations to senior students.  

The hour long presentation was based around the staff and governors’ duty of care, to protect children from being drawn into terrorism. Suffice to say, the schools internal referral and monitoring processes were clear, and all staff knew what to do if they had any safeguarding concerns about a pupil.  

Our presentation quickly brought the staff up to date with the key legislation, and the current national picture.  

This was followed by a case study, which highlighted key characteristics shown by the individual concerned, and the opportunities to intervene, which were missed by those who were involved with him.  

Staff were encouraged to take a calm, confident and common sense approach, and to use the notice, check and share approach.  

It was reassuring to see how staff at the school genuinely care and want the best for their students.
