Dignitas Project
Dignity through education | We believe every child deserves an excellent education
As we prepare for World Teachers' Day, we are honored to share the story of Mathew Odinyo, a teacher whose dedication has significantly impacted a student’s life.
In 2018, Teacher Mathew crossed paths with David, a student who had earned the unfortunate nickname "BORN TO SUFFER." David’s challenges were immense—he was constantly late to school, frequently involved in fights, and had begun? experimenting with drugs. By the time he sat for? his KCPE exams, he scored only 92 out of 500 marks. His parents, worn down by his struggles, were ready to give up, convinced that their son's academic journey had reached a bitter ? end.
A Teacher’s Commitment
Teacher Mathew refused to accept that fate for David. Fresh into his teaching career, he saw more in David than his past failures. He believed in second chances. Determined not to let David’s potential go to waste, Mathew made a bold move—he reached out to David’s parents, stressing the importance of a positive future for their son. After several discussions, he persuaded them to consider vocational training instead of giving up entirely.
This was no easy feat, but Mathew remained dedicated. Eventually, they agreed to enroll David in a vocational training institute.
A New Path, A Brighter Future
David began training at the Sensei Training Institute to become a plant operator. With Mathew’s encouragement, David started a new chapter in his life.
