The Teacher is a work in Progreess

That was my first year of teaching ........

I never taught before .......

I was getting ready for my class...

A class which was neither interested nor responsible.

But I had to teach…..

Because that was my job.....

I was anxious and tense....

I entered the class room, where students were restless and boisterous ..... 

I hated this class… 

I thought they came to the class, only for attendance and entertainment. 

I raised my voice above the noise and started teaching to the walls,

With  anger, frustration and helplessness.

As a last resort, I started dictating the notes and asked the students to copy.

They obeyed.....

And that brought some normalcy. 

In-between .....

 one student stood up and asked a question,

I didn't understand it.

I thought it was an outside the syllabus question!

I had neither prepared for the class nor read anything beyond the syllabus.

Fear started gripping in me, as I had no clue about the answer!

What will students think of me?

That question increased my fear at that moment....

Students started laughing......

I mustered all the courage and asked the boy to repeat the question. 

He did .....

The class laughed again .....

With humility….. 

 I told the boy that I don't know the answer,

 and I will find out and give him the answer in my next class.......

There was pin-drop silence in the class.

I never experienced it before ........

That brought a smile on my face and my body relaxed.

A teacher was born inside of me that day.

Since then……

 I started preparing for my classes and started reading beyond the syllabus.

That journey made me enjoy every class and excel as a teacher
