TEACHER TO TRAINEE - Month Eight

TEACHER TO TRAINEE - Month Eight

WELCOME BACK LEGENDS!

Please enjoy more of my monthly mishaps and brain ramblings.

August has been a mad month, probably my busiest month this year, but also by far my most enjoyable!

AUGUST SHOULD BE A SWEAR WORD FOR RECRUITERS!

June and July came by, I smashed my target was floating on cloud 9 then August strolls through the door, ready to mess everything up!

You have candidate to speak to?

Not in August you don't - They're all in Benidorm smashing off double vodka redbulls for 3 Euros!

You have clients to speak to?

Think again my friend, they've took their wife Sally, their two kids and their cute fluffy Springer Spaniel Collin to Cornwall and the last person they are going to answer a call from is you.

I propose that recruiters should be given August off as a national holiday, who's with me? ... Anyone?... no ... okay I will keep leaving voicemails...

p.s. I miss you.

WEDDINGS GALORE!

Everyone seems to have sat together last year in a big hall and decided that August next year will be the time we all culminate together and have our wedding on consecutive days throughout August.

The amount of wedding pictures I have seen all over social media this past month have been astronomical!

We get it you love each other

....so much so that you want to get the government involved .. but be considerate of my weekends.. it's when rugby's on TV.

(Luckily, I have very few friends so this was not a problem for me.)

Also, shout out to my good friends Tom and Jess for having the decency to have their wedding on a week night!

BRINGING DOWN UNDER TO THE FRINGE

I managed to squeeze in a long weekend towards the end of August to head up to Edinburgh and catch up with one of my closest mates from when I used to live in Sydney.

I didn't clock until I was on the train on the way up there that it was the last few days of the Fringe Festival - Result!

It's mad to me how Scotland is only a few hours away but it genuinely felt like I could have been the other side of Europe.

If you have never been to Edinburgh then you need to go, experience the people, the buildings... the battered mars bars! I've even seen some shops selling battered pizza's, I wasn't brave enough.

After seeing a handful of amazing comedians, being given a ghost tour around Edinburghs streets and being abused numerous times for being English i headed back home feeling slightly more cultured than when I left.

THE QUESTION YOU'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR, WHAT IS RECRUITMENT ACTUALLY LIKE AFTER 8 MONTHS

When I quit teaching, I knew it wasn't for me anymore. My heart was no longer in it and I was becoming miserable.

When I started recruitment I thought straight away, this is what I want to do.. but I don't know how I am going to ever get good enough or learn enough of these processes, steps, job titles, software names etc. to be able to do everything good enough.

But I carried on turning up every day and gradually things became easier and easier, the work is still challenging (which is a good thing), but every day I feel like it gets that bit easier! Apart from dealing with some crazy candidates.. that always happens (it's secretly one of my favourite bits of the job).

In my eight months so far, I have managed to meet and speak to some amazing people and although I have found some days more challenging than other, I can hand on heart say I have genuinely thoroughly enjoyed it so far, and I am looking forward to carrying on and continuing to learn and develop!

To briefly sum up my career change, It was one of the best decisions I have made in a long time.. scariest (at the time) but the best.

"Everything you've ever wanted is sitting on the other side of fear."

If you want to change career or you want to find a new company that will value you, then get in touch for a confidential chat. You can't be scared all your life ;)

See you cool kids next month, or in your Inmails if you're a developer ??
