How Nerina Bridges is driving change with Teacher Standards
At Assistant Principal Nerina Bridges’ school, embedding the Teacher Standards into every professional learning session isn’t just a goal?– it’s a game changer.
As the only Highly Accomplished or Lead teacher (HALT) at Samuel Terry Public School, Nerina has made it her mission to keep the Teacher Standards at the forefront. “I’ve made it a priority to weave the Teacher Standards into every professional learning session I lead,” says Nerina.
Nerina shares that it’s routine for all presenters to embed the Teacher Standards into their professional learning opportunities – whether it’s peer-to-peer learning, presentations or during team planning days.
This shift is making a real impact, helping create a culture of continuous improvement. It’s one of the teacher tips we’re sharing as part of our Thrive in 2025 campaign.

The Indigenous Cultural Responsiveness Self-Reflection Tool is being used by schools across the country, and as part of understanding its impact and effectiveness AITSL has been running an implementation trial with teaching teams across Australia.
The trial will conclude at the end of Term 1 2025 and there is still time to join! We are inviting schools to express their interest in collaborating with fellow teachers and leaders to provide valuable feedback on the tool while also gaining a greater understanding of your school’s cultural responsiveness and how it can grow and evolve.
Positive change in the educational landscape is possible – with your input. Share your experience by:
