Teacher Appreciation Day is quickly arriving. As a former teacher, I understand the hard work teachers do daily; this work doesn't end at night, over the summers or the weekends. Effective teachers take home everything, from paperwork to student concerns and worries. Teaching is a career in itself, however, it is also a lifestyle. I understand the current situations many teachers are facing. In fact, over the past month, over 500 teachers reached out to me personally in regard to leaving the field. If you are a teacher reading this, before you choose to make such a great move, please consider all avenues. Our kids need you, and all fields can be difficult at times.
Effective teachers make a difference in every single life they touch, and they can change lives forever.
The end of the school year is quickly approaching for many students and teachers. This year was challenging for almost everyone in education. As it continues today, there are policy changes, standardized tests and battles to be won. Some say, this time in education has been one of the most unstable times since the desegregation of schools.
As educators, we create relationships with our students that can carry through generations. We have the greatest privilege, the highest levels of responsibilities, and most of all, we give and receive the greatest gifts-the opportunity to help build the future in countless ways.
Daily, there are untold stories of lives being changed forever by teachers. You may know some, those teachers who keep food in their desks for the hungry, a pair of extra gloves for cold hands, or even a closet full of clean clothes for their students. You may know the teacher who instills words of encouragement, turning an insecure child into a tower of confidence.
Unannounced and graciously spoken words can impact a student's life forever.
I believe in you. You are smart. You are talented. You can do anything.
Thank you for the hard work you do every single day. Your work has not gone unnoticed. Effective teachers, you are the heroes of our world.
Please thank a teacher next week. Simply saying thank you to a teacher can be the greatest gift.
Here is a great video about teaching and how it can be considered one of the hardest jobs in the world. It's a great tribute. Thank you BuzzFeed!
